The Quacks of Quedlinburg is a fantastic push your luck game. So good in fact, that it was awarded the 2018 Kennerspiel des Jarhres. In the game, you are pulling ingredients (cardboard chips) out of a bag, placing them on your cauldron board, and reaping the rewards. However if you draw too many white chips, your pot explodes and you take a penalty for the round.

These cardboard chips that are drawn out of the bag are the central mechanism of the game and get a ton of use. Between them being fiddled with, stirred around in the bag, and occasionally tossed in a moment of frustration, my chips started to show some wear pretty quickly. So began my search for a replacement.

Searching Etsy yielded a bunch of results of colored plastic holders that you can put the chips in to protect them. Forums recommended using coin capsules as a budged friendly option for protection. These were all viable options and I was about to pull the trigger on the coin capsules until I heard about the geek up bits from Board Game Geek.

The quacks geek up bits are the same shape, color, and have the same artwork as the original bits, but are a nice chunky plastic. These aftermarket components are so well done that it feels like they should have come with the original game. Stirring them in the bag before pulling one out makes a super satisfying sound as they clack together and they look tremendous the table. Durability has been outstanding and there is not a blemish on them after many rounds of play. These bits are one of those rare upgrades that truly enhances the game play experience .

Quacks Geek Up Bits Final Verdict

I will admit that I am a sucker for premium components and like to bling out my games but if you are a quacks fan, these bits are as close to an essential component upgrade you can get. A must have.
